We focus on creating an intimate diving experience: our boats are U.S. Coast Guard certified for 22 passengers, but we carry a maximum of 12 divers. Once at the dive site, we then break into two groups of 6, with an experienced Dive Master as a guide for each group. Our emphasis is on fun, safe dives that will expose you to our islands' magnificent heritage!

All of our boat dives take advantage of the fast, comfortable ride of our HRIB (Hard Rigid Inflatable Boat), which leaves from the conveniently located Mala Wharf, in Lahaina, Maui. In addition, we offer top-of-the-line scuba diving equipment for all our guests. We are proud to carry quality Sea-Quest weight integrated men’s and woman’s BC's, as well as Sunnto dive computers and Aqualung regulators. Full-length quality wet suits, boots and split fins are all available for our guests for the ultimate in scuba diving pleasure and comfort. Nitrox is available from our Nitrox Technologies Membrane system, and we encourage our divers to dive nitrox. Padi and SDI nitrox courses are available for our guests not yet nitrox certified.

The coral reef sites we dive boast a staggering wealth of marine life, and Hawaii's clear blue water offers some of the best underwater visibility in the world. On any given day we might see spinner dolphins, giant sea turtles, moray eels, butterflyfish, angelfish, parrotfish, mantas, crabs, sea cucumbers, octopus, and much more. During the winter months, we see humpback whales from the boat nearly every day as they frolic with their young offspring in the shallow waters between Maui and Lanai.

Our instructors offer scuba diving certification courses through both the Professional Association of Dive Instructors (PADI) and Scuba Diving International (SDI). Both courses are 3 days in length and involve the student spending the majority of his/her time in the ocean honing practical skills doing real dives. The cost of each course is $699 for Padi and $599.00 for SDI. (note: you need do only one of the two courses to be scuba certified). Both PADI and SDI are recognized and respected worldwide.

About Hawaiian Rafting Adventures and Steve Juarez

Captain Steve Juarez founded Hawaiian Rafting Adventures & Dive Maui and has been sharing his enthusiasm for scuba diving on Maui with our guests for over 15 years. He has also personally trained all our dive guides on the Maui and Lanai sites. Captain Steve shoots digital photos on every dive and has trained our other instructors to shoot photos of their group as well. We offer a slide show on our flat screen monitor in the shop immediately after the dive. A photo CD of our guests' dives plus some great stock shots are available for purchase. Digital Underwater Cameras are available for rent and Captain Steve always has some good advice on shooting techniques. When it comes to scuba diving Maui and Lanai, there is no greater authority than Captain Steve.

Captain Steve has also been working with Manta Pacific to identify the Maui Mantas by the markings on the under side of the Mantas. Steve has been collecting data and sending photos to Tim Clark at Manta Pacific Research Foundation to compare and identify the Mantas on the site. Tim Clark produced a book about the Kona Mantas and identified over 100 on Kona, Hawaii. Between Tim and Steve's photos, over 60 have been identified on the Maui site and Tim is working on developing a Manta ID book for Maui. It is apparent from the photos that the Maui Mantas are different Mantas from the Kona Mantas. They are not crossing over between islands. Manta Ray Pacific has worked with State Legislators to produce a bill to protect Mantas in Hawaii. We need the public to support this important legislation by going to the web site and filling out the petition asking all the State Legislators to support this bill.

$4.00 of the proceeds from each diver is donated to Manta Pacific Research Foundation www.mantapacific.org.

The island of Lana'i offers some of the best diving in Hawaii. Lana'i is the sixth largest island in Hawaii. Lanai is known as the pineapple island due to its history as a island-wide pineapple plantation. In 1922 James Dole purchase the entire island. Lanai has a single city, Lanai City and it contains fewer than 5000 residents. The sparse population on Lanai and the island's remote location translates into more fish, less water pollution, and better diving than Maui and Oahu. The south side of Lanai is where all the diving is done. Often times Lanai is sheltered from North and South swells seriously affecting other parts of the island. The underwater topography consists of lava formations including caverns, walls, "cathedrals," tubes, and pinnacles. Turtles off Lanai are not affected by the herpes-like virus plaguing the Maui turtles. The ʻAuʻau channel seperating Maui and Lana'i is the most common place to find whales since it's the most protected and shallow place for the Humpback Whales. Lana'i also offers a pod of spinner dophins frequently seen during dive trips over to Lana'i. Lana'i offers incredible dive sites, amazing whale watching and dolphin opportunities.

Sergeant Major

Seargent Major is a series of 3 lava ridges running perpendicular to the shoreline. The site includes severa small caves, ridges, and archeways connecting 1 ridge to the other. The critters include white tip reef sharks, moray eels, Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles, and the typical reef fish. Ocassonally spinner dolphins will pass by this dive site.

Knob Hill

Knob Hill is named after a 5 foot rock formation that resembes a doorknob. The doorknob is in 20 feet of water. 100 feet to the east resides a large field of leather coral which is uncommon off Lanai. The dive site contains several archways and swim throughs for divers. You can see Heller's Barracuda at this site as well as a large school of Pyramid Butterflyfish.

Fish Rock

Fish Rock gets its name from 2 40 foot high pinnacles which are habitat for serveral different fish species. One of the pinnacles breaches the surface. The bottom is sandy and contains Garden Eels. Many plankton-eating fish can be found here. Since the dive site is located near a resting spot for Spinner Dolphins, the chances to see Dolphins is increased while diving this Lanai dive site.

Lighthouse

Lighthouse Pnt. is a great wall dive with 3 caves with sandy/silty bottoms a favorite spot for sleeping White Tip Sharks. There are 3 moorings for boats to tie up to with the bottom of the line at 50' which is great for a decent and ascent line for divers.

Second Cathedral

Second Cathedral is a Lanai dive site containing a 100 foot long lava tube with black coral hanging from the ceiling with lots of sponges and soft corals along the walls. The roof of the lava tube contains several rare corals including very old Black Coral. Many Nocturnal fish reside inside the dark lava tube.

Sharkfin Rock

The Lanai dive site Sharkin Rock is named after a small wall that breaks the surface resembling a Shark Fin. The dive site contains a dramatic wall which rises 80 feet from the bottom. The marine life includes Pyramid and Pennant Butterflyfish, Black Triggerfish and more. The visibility is usually quite good.

First Cathedral

First Cathedral is the most popular dive site off Lanai. The dive site contains a huge chamber with cut-outs in the lava forming "stain glass windows" with the sun shining through. The chamber is quite high and contains many critters in every nook and cranny.

The TDI Advanced Nitrox Course qualifies divers to use enriched air nitrox from EAN 21 through EAN 100 to a depth of 40 metres/130 feet during dives hat do not require staged decompression. Often taught in conjunction with the TDI Decompression Procedures course, this can be considered the foundation of your technical diving career. Advanced Nitrox is also a great course for those wanting to extend their bottom times in shallower depths such as scientific diver, and a must for SCR or CCR divers. The course cover topics like

One of SDI’s most popular courses, the solo diver program teaches experienced recreational divers how to safely dive independently of a dive buddy or strengthen your buddy team skills.
